What is Teppanyaki?

Teppanyaki is a style of Japanese cuisine that involves cooking food typically including a variety of meats and vegetables, on a large, flat iron griddle (hibachi). The word "teppanyaki" translates to "grilled on an iron plate" in Japanese, where "teppan" refers to the iron plate or griddle, and "yaki" means grilled or cooked.
In a teppanyaki restaurant, skilled chefs prepare the food right in front of the diners on the hot griddle. The chefs showcase their culinary techniques by chopping, flipping, and cooking the ingredients with flair, often including entertaining tricks and interactions with the customers.
Teppanyaki meals typically include a variety of options such as beef, chicken, seafood, and vegetables, all cooked with precision and often accompanied by flavorful sauces and seasonings. The food is usually cut into bite-sized pieces to ensure even cooking and ease of consumption.
